Appointment/Questions

The person I will be interviewing for my food is my mom (Macrina Ponce). My interview date for her is Friday, August 27th, 2010.

Questions:
1. What is your story behind the food (Bibingka)?Childhood, experiences, etc.
2. Why do you cook it every time we have family gatherings?
3. Is there a certain way you add to the dish or the way you cook it that's different from the Bibingkas others make?
4. Where did you get the recipe from; grandma (Nanang), Grandpa (Tata), etc etc.?
5. Why is it so important to you that it has to be made a certain way?
6. Did Nanang make this often for you, your brothers & sisters when you were little kids?
7. Why do you make the shape of the dish a circle instead of a usual square, isn't it harder when you do that?
8. Is this your best dessert dish?
9. Is this the first dish that comes to mind whenever someone asks you to make something, like for a potluck or party, etc.?
10. When was the first time you decided to make the dish?
11. Were you afraid that something bad will happen to the dish when you made it the first time?
12. Did you feel accomplished the first time you made it; what was your feeling?

  1. Hi Melissa,
These are good questions. I hope that when you did the actual interview, you got your subject to go beyond "yes" and "no" answers. One of the best ways to do this is to ask an "open ended" questions or to follow up the question with "Why?"
    For example:
Question 3 "Is there a certain way you cook it?"
This can be answered with a "yes" or a "no" but if you ask, "How is your bibingka special or different from others?" you will get more than a yes or no.
OR if you just follow up the question with "How?" or "Why?" that would probably work, too :)
